Do I need my parents' permission to get contraception?
Condoms do not require a prescription and are even available from vending machines, for example at the University of Malta canteen.
For contraceptives that require a prescription (which is most contraceptives except condoms) or are given out solely by pharmacists (such as the morning after pill), we are aware of some people under the age of 18 years having issues when trying to get them without their parents present.
If you are over 16 years old, the law in Malta allows you to get medical care without parental consent. The age of sexual consent in Malta is also 16 years.
Therefore, 16 and 17 year olds should not have any difficulty getting any form of contraception, including long acting contraception like IUDs. If you encounter problems,
