I am between 12 and 24 weeks pregnant and I need an abortion. What are my options?
You could have a surgical abortion in a country that allows second trimester abortions.
European countries have different gestational limits up to which abortion is allowed on demand. The UK and the Netherlands are countries with relatively progressive abortion laws that allow abortions in the second trimester.
BPAS and
MSI are two leading abortion providers in the UK that accept women from abroad, including from Malta. If you can afford private care you could contact them directly. Please be aware that second trimester abortions tend to be more expensive than earlier ones, especially if performed after 14 weeks of pregnancy.
If you need help or financial assistance to plan your trip abroad, you can contact the charity
Abortion Support Network for help on 27780991 or 20341685.
Unfortunately, the use of abortion pills at home is not recommended in the second trimester due to the risk of complications. Nevertheless, if you intend to use abortion pills at home make sure you have someone you trust with you during the process and be prepared to seek help at hospital if needed.
