What are the side effects of an abortion with pills?

Like all other medications, abortion pills can have side effects.

Abortion pills cause a miscarriage, which means you will have moderate to very strong cramps throughout and after the procedure. Cramping is usually strong for about 4-8 hours after Misoprostol. Milder cramps may continue for several days and up to two weeks. Ibuprofen and other painkillers help reduce the pain.

Nausea and vomiting are common in pregnant people, but they may become worse with the use of Misoprostol. A low grade fever below 38ÂșC, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache and flu-like symptoms are all common side effects of Misoprostol. They usually occur within one hour and should resolve completely within 6 hours of using Misoprostol.

If during or after an abortion you have intense abdominal pain that does not go after a while, have a fever lasting more than 24 hours after using Misoprostol or a fever of more than 39 degrees Celcius, you should consult with a doctor.
